Galeri Mana collaborates with international contemporary arts project producer and curator Abaseh Mirvali for the gallery’s artistic programming and special projects. Under the curatorship of Abaseh Mirvali, Galeri Mana is presenting a series of exhibitions featuring challenging works by established and emerging contemporary artists, designers, thinkers, architects and writers and developing a program that resonates with the social, historical and architectural aspects of the building, the neighborhood and the broader contexts that surround the gallery’s practice.
Abaseh Mirvali is an Independent Project Producer & Curator based in Istanbul, Mexico City, and Berlin. Author, Concept & Program Development for the Biennial of the Americas, 2013 where she served as CEO, Executive Director and Comisaria since 2011, she is also Chief Curator of Draft Urbanism, an innovative and groundbreaking exhibition of urban architectural interventions which will be a key artistic presentation of the Biennial of the Americas. In January 2013, along with Gaspar Libedinsky, she co-taught the course Curating Architecture at Harvard University. Between 2005 and 2008, at the invitation of Eugenio López Alonso, Ms. Mirvali was Executive Director of the Fundación/Colección Jumex, where she successfully consolidated, institutionalized, and developed one of the largest and most important collections of contemporary art for a private institution in Latin America. Prior to joining Fundación/Colección Jumex, Ms. Mirvali worked as Special Advisor to the US Ambassador for Culture and Education at the US Embassy in Mexico City, where she consolidated one of the first curatorial projects developed by a consular mission in foreign territories. She served as a senior policy analyst and advisor for several American governmental organizations, including the US Trade and Development Agency (TDA) at the Caspian Finance Center, where she also served as Director of Business Development for Turkey and Eurasia. Since 2009 she has coordinated lectures at Art Basel in both Basel and Miami. In 2011, 2012 and 2013 she curated the newly launched U-TURN Project Rooms by MERCEDES-BENZ, bringing an elite selection of international contemporary art and galleries to arteBA in Buenos Aires, Argentina. During 2010 and 2011 she was a juror for the Magic of Persia Contemporary Art Prize. She is a member of the Contemporary Art Trust (Patronato de Arte Contemporáneo, A.C.), whose goal is to support contemporary art in Mexico, and of the Selection Committee of the Bellagio Creative Art Fellowship for Visual Artists of the Rockefeller Foundation. She was a founding member of the capital campaign board for Fulbright fellowships at the Mexico-United States Fulbright Commission.
Ms. Mirvali, American of Iranian heritage, earned a BA in Politics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and is working towards an MPA in Public Policy from Georgetown University.
